Why I Should Care About Mental Illness?

The Trickle Down Effect

One of the biggest questions that we get is:

"Should I enter into a relationship with someone that has Avoidant Personality, or should I move on?"

There are many things to take into consideration before making this decision.

Mental Illness Affects Everyone

The person that has AVP comes to work very depressed. He gets fired because he just can't deal with people any more.

This problem affects a lot of things beyond the Avoidant—from society's unemployment rates to the co-workers required to pick up extra slack. Those co-workers go home overworked, and may take it out on their own families.

What about the people that have AVP that went off the deep end, and ended up going on a killing spree? Or those who took the life of a spouse, leaving kids and a single parent to suffer?

Mental Illness Affects Loved Ones

What about the Avoidant that is married to a Loved One that winds up divorced?

Divorce wreaks havoc on families and destroys the lives of kids. Those children may wind up—if not looked after—in jail, doing drugs, on the streets, or worse.

Everything we do matters, and our actions affect so many others. This is especially evident when it comes to mental illness.

Mental Illness Affects Kids & Teens

Kids and teens are the most vulnerable, not only to having mental illness, but to being affected by family members that have mental health issues.

A kid or teen that has a mentally ill family member is 30% more likely to commit suicide, end up in jail, or wind up using drugs or alcohol.

The teen or child then grows up to negatively affect their friends, their co-workers, their own spouses and children, and society as a whole.

An Example of How One Life Affects Others

The classic movie It's a Wonderful Life portrays a man who becomes depressed to the point of suicide. The plot provides a great illustration of how a person's actions affect the lives of many others.

Generations Can Be Affected

One person with a mental health issue can affect generation after generation after generation.

The cycle does not stop until one person with the courage to overcome mental illness stands up and says:

"ENOUGH!!!!!!!"
